Tim--
Two points:
1) the term "discrete" is usually understood as opposed
to "continuous", meaning (in most cases) that it cannot
be altered by "teeny-weeny" amounts, but only by fixed
increments (e.g., "digital" vs "analog"). thus
your remark about "constancy of meaning" gives quite a
new meaning for "discrete". of course, you may choose
your own meanings (that's exactly what "stipulative definitions"
do!), but you're now at odds with everyone else's understanding.
2) [i've forgotten--i'll have to check your message again.]
