Discrete as I used it is: medium-independent... or digital. I'll take this up in the next note when I discuss images, which _aren't_ by nature (we "digitize" them). I can see how you took my 'discrete' as 'constant in meaning', though I only meant that no "stuff" (or information) is lost when you change the .... hmmm, what word.... medium (?) that carries the words. You could spell a text message out with helicopters or people and it stays the same.

Remember that some people I'm addressing this to aren't concerned with such subtleties, which is why I'm spelling things out with my tickertape, Western Union, sandblasted moon-message approach.

(By the way, do _you_ find this distracting or rambling? I'm getting a lot of flack from people about my style, and so far have stuck to my guns because I'd hoped it was at least refreshing, or entertaining... but people are getting downright nasty...not just a few).
